2002 T-2053 Sunline Trailer Trauma!

Hi All!

Thought I would start a thread as to how to go about baptizing a once beautiful Sunline Travel Trailer.

Allan & I have the long story in the Introduction area. I'll add it here soon!

I submitted some pictures to a repair service about 65 miles from here and the response was, worst case scenario $5-$6,000 but thinking it will be closer to $4,000. I wanted to ask before towing it over what the worst would be on the repair, possible rebuild. He also said they would love to look at it in case we decide it's just more repair than we want to invest in.

I've started an album with pictures of the damaged areas.

SO- that's where we are with our 'project' today! Off to feed the chickens!

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 1993 sun line 40 ft. I got what I thought was a good deal but I realize now I bit off more than I can chew. After taking a few days to look it over these are my revelations. All the electrical components are gone(no breaker box, converter, nothing but exposed wires under what used to be the cabinet that housed stove, which is also gone, appears to be no hookup for water or sewer. All I see is a broken sewer pipe underneath. Shower is gone. Kitchen sink is there and toilet. No shower or sink in bathroom. Can anyone help me as far as where to start with where the sewer is supposed to be. I know there has to be a port where the sewe hose would hookup to dump the sewer. Also on the outside of the rv there is an access door that says city water I think. Well it is all gutted out just a hole to inside the rv. I have no knowledge of rvs so I'm lost. Also, where would the breaker box be located. I was prepared to renovate this rv but I didn't realize it was in this bad of shape. Pictures of what it's supposed to look like would help. Thank you so much.

2017 Buttonwood Grab Bag Gift Exchange

Hope has agreed to run the gift exchange game again this year. It'll be right after the Saturday night pot luck supper. It is played as follows.

1. Each participant purchases and wraps or bags a $15 item. This can be anything, and doesn't need to be related to camping.
2. All gifts are placed on a table
3. Each participant draws a number which will be the order of play
4. Player #1 chooses and opens any gift from the table, showing it to the crowd.
5. On your turn, if you're #2 or higher, you can either choose a wrapped gift from the table, or steal a gift from anyone who has already chosen and opened a gift.
6. If your gift is stolen you get to chose another gift, either a wrapped gift or you can steal. (But not what was just taken from you)

This process usually leads to a lot of silliness and fun! If you want to participate, just bring something Saturday night and join in the fun! No need to sign up.

Hi friends,
Since my DH passed away recently, I have decided to invest a "few" more $ and get Serenity out of the driveway and go camping..she has more problems than I like to think about although she does look pretty inside! She is a 1986 1661 Saturn...
I turned the fridge on electric and it cooled down! Then I tried it another time and all
I had was a few drops of water in the freezer..so I shut it down..a few days later was going to try the gas and found the coils in the back were VERY warm! It had been turned off about four days..weather NOT hot. I unplugged it,and even the cord was warm(possibly from the warmth in the compartment?)..Now I am afraid to try and light it.. No battery is hooked up but convertor is producing DC at least to TV booster..could that have anything to do with the overheating and no cooling? What is my next step please? Thanks. Janalee

Will be starting renovation soon, looking at information on renovations here has me feeling I can do this! So I haven't gotten into investigating yet but I have a question, is the framing 1X2 or 2X2? This is all new to me. I have helped in conversational framing.

Thanks in advance Tammy

Feedback on convertible sofa as a bed? Futon replacement?

$

I have some plans to host a family member or friends on occasion during extended stays and I wanted to see what folks thought about sleeping on the convertible couches? Thumbs up or thumbs down as a second bed? I'm not sure if all Sunlines have similar couches but this would be in a T-1950. I've never slept in one before and wanted to see if others think they serve the purpose for a few nights? This would be a for a single person, not a couple and they'd be under 6' tall and 175lbs. My sisters are significantly smaller but some guy friends are about 6'.

I have a futon at home with the upgraded 8" mattress and it's as comfortable as my queen and was thinking to remove the Sunline couch and install a futon. I know the futon's frame is pretty heavy. Has anyone replaced the couch with a futon? Any feedback?

Well after a long winter spent doing some mild restorations, we took our first camping trip. Everything worked great, it towed beautifully, and we can't wait to go again.

moisture meter

hey guys new to the site but not to sunline. going tomorrow to pick up 2003 2370 solaris. it looks perfect inside and out.great for here in the northeast. has mechanical problems like furnace, ac, small recent leak at water tank..nothing that scares me. absolutely dry and solid inside.my question is about readings on the moisture meter. being an outdoor vehicle, and subject to weather changes ( we've had a bit of rain lately ) can anyone guess at what meter readings could be at the worst or best. I would think it wouldn't be zero, maybe 10 percent or so ? just worried about the roof and corner leaks ? readings...the last sunline I had had a solid sort of aluminum roof. being a carpenter 50 years now I'm used to water...still going to take it as the price is right..any ideas ? thanks

Hey everyone, I just got a 1985 1350 and I am looking to replace the axle and put a new brake assembly on it. I have done some looking and can't find anything with the hub face measurement. I'm hoping not to have to put it up on blocks more than I need to so if anyone knows the measurements that would be fantastic.

Also, I cannot find a serial number or any info on the existing axel to look up.

2003 T2370 self imposed loss moisture meter blues

$

I had a chance (still do ) to get what looked to be a near perfect 2003 2370 from a local dealer, at a fair low price, before it goes to auction. I've decided against it. I knew from the start it had a few problems, AC not working, furnace not working ,leak in the under couch water tank, and a small drip from the grey water valve, no propane tanks, and a few cosmetics, nothing too bad. being a 67 year old carpenter for 50 years, I love to take stuff apart, correct it, then put it all back together. I just finished a 2005 "other brand " trailer last year after spending 6 months last year outside, in the winter, completely removing the entire interior, all new sub floor and nice new vinyl, all outside mouldings, screw covers, screws, aulking and putty tape.. along with ANTHING that needed attention. then back together just like factory, then I sold it as really didn't like the cramped layout, and lack of windows (3) ( I want my '85 1550 back !!!) sorry bear with me. so I went yesterday for one last check, and brought a moisture meter. if it's correct, I found the whole rear kitchen floor wet for about a 3 by 5 area, under the almost non removeable cabinets, into a bit of the bathroom , and all across the front bed area from the bottom of the window, down to and maybe including the floor, and behind the tall cabinet on one side. nothing seemed soft, no smells, maybe a hint of staining coming through the rear floor. otherwise nicely maintained, caulked and very clean. but the meter measured almost 100% in all areas.anyway I'm opting out, mainly because I won't get to use it this year the roof is 14 years old, the tires which I thought looked good were 2005, and those DARN CABINETS !! the only way I would repair them is to remove the mouldings and siding, to access the cabinets and entire kitchen to get it out. too much for me right now, a basic fix, but a lot of time. I can't just cut around things like bath and fridge walls, I would need to get under it all, even out to the framing along the perimeter to do it right. sorry I'm too long winded, but thanks for listening...the auction I spoke of is local and this will be the only "good one "there...maybe I should go and bid on my little accquaintence ??

Noob in South New Jersey (1988 T-2263)

Greetings everyone!

I recently purchased a 1988 Sunline Satellite T-2263 from a member of my radio club. It's been in his family for many, many years, but no longer meets his needs and is in need of some TLC he does not have the time to complete. While searching for more information (why blaze new ground when you can learn from others who have already been down a similar path) regarding the issues that require immediate attention.

I grew up tent camping in CA, spent summer vacations tent camping in places like Humboldt National Forest, Manzanita Lake at Mt Lasson and bicycle camping along the coast of Oregon and CA. I relocated to NJ about 11 years ago, got married and started a family. We have a 5 yr old (5 and a half if you ask my daughter) and want to give my family the wonderful experience and foster the fond memories I have from camping.

My T-2263 already has water intrusion issues, on the "passenger" side, so I know I have some work to do to make it a good solid camper. Since this is my first camper, I have many questions, but I will use the search function before asking here (I'm not a noob to forums, search several times first, then search some more using different terms and/or order, then post question if still not sure).

My first order of business is to identify and stop the water intrusion. Then I'll open up the known damaged areas, dry out the camper with a de-humidifier, remove/repair/replace the damaged parts and put humpty-dumpty back together again. The awning needs to have the fabric/vinyl replaced (I need help identifying what specific manufacturer of this awning is). I want to replace all the carpet with vinyl or some other kind of durable flooring that is easier to keep clean.

The biggest question is where to start? Do I reseal the corners and any leaks in the roof first, or do I open things up first to determine what needs to be done. I do not have access to indoor space, so this will be stored outside in the elements.

Once the repairs are complete, I have some upgrades in mind, like adding solar panels to the roof, upgrading the electrical (batteries, charge controller and inverter), add an access/pass through panel for amateur radio antenna connections and replace leveling jack stands with crank-down kind.

If you made it this far and you're still awake, reply below to let me know.

Stay tuned, there will be many more questions to come....

rock nearly through the outside wall

Went camping this weekend, had a GREAT time. Packing up to leave and the guy next door, in a seasonal site, was mowing his lawn. Huge, horrible popping sound. I thought it was a tire cause my husband was working on the other side. Ran over, he's fine. Didn't give it another thought. Got home and on the rear side there is a hole. A literal hole, through the metal exterior and into the next layer of material. It doesn't go through. Folks, it's large. Nearly 3 inches. now what? How do I fix this?

Thanks!

Specs on a 579 and 559 Dometic A/C running capacitor.

I need the specs on the running capacitor for my Dometic Brisk Air A/C. I think it is the 559 model but it could be the 579 model. I know I should have checked the specs on the capacitor when I had the cowl off...but I thought the fan motor was bad...turns out that it is most likely the running cap since it supplies the juice to start the fan and the fan motor starts up when I give the blade a push with my finger. Dometic doesn't give any info in it's manuals regarding the mfds. of the capacitors. Thanks in advance.
