T170 Star Ray awning.

I was going to attempt to open the awning on my newly aqquired 1990 T170 Star Ray camper today. There is no info in my manuals about the awning. I searched on youtube and all the vids of awning operation show a switch or clip up on the shaft/tube the awning is wrapped around that lets it ratchet open or closed. There is no swich or clip on mine. Also, on the videos it shows a strap near the center of the awning, wrapped in with it that you use to take it in and out with a ratchet type action. My T170 doesn't have that either, unless it's wrapped up tite, out of site. The locks and other hardware on the arms are understandable to me after watching some vids.
Can anyone shed some light on what I am missing here? Maybe a link to some information.
